Little Movement in Britain’s Political Scene as Tories Remain Ahead

Opposition party closes the year with a 16-point advantage over Labour.

The Conservative Party heads to the Christmas season with a large advantage over Labour, a new Angus Reid Public Opinion poll conducted in cooperation with PoliticalBetting.com has found.

Voting Intention

Across Great Britain, 40 per cent of decided voters and leaners (unchanged since early December) would vote for the Conservative candidate in their constituency if a General Election were held tomorrow.

The governing Labour Party is second with 24 per cent (+1), followed by the Liberal Democrats with 20 per cent (+1).

The United Kingdom Independence Party (UKIP) is fourth with six per cent (-1), followed by the British National Party (BNP) at three per cent (-1), and the Green Party also with three per cent (unchanged).

Regional Breakdowns

The Conservatives are nearing the 50 per cent mark in the South of England (48%), where Labour (18%) continues to trail the Lib-Dems (21%). In Scotland, Labour is ahead of the Scottish National Party (SNP) by 12 points (37% to 25%).

Other Demographics

The Conservatives now have a 24-point lead over Labour among female voters, but the gap has narrowed considerably among male voters. In early December, the Tories were ahead by 18 points. This time, they hold a nine-point edge (37% to 28%).

The Tories are also ahead across all age groups, including a particularly high proportion (45%) of voters aged 55 and over.
