Are you under 26 and interested in creating the future of Market Research?

On Sunday I am submitting a synopsis to ESOMAR for their Congress in Atlanta (in September). I am looking to facilitate a group of perhaps 20 young market researchers to create a manifesto for market research in 2030. By 2030 today’s young researchers will be leading the industry, so we’d like to hear from you now. If you’d like to be involved, email me at ray.poynter@visioncritical.com. We already have the core of a team, but we’d like another ten members. Of course, ...

Communicating: it’s not what you say, it’s what’s understood

Over the last couple of days I have been involved in a Twitter discussion about insight in market research, and beyond that to the role of storytelling and what communicating really means. I think that is really important that people providing market research really understand the difference between saying something and communicating it. If something is communicated then to me that means it has been understood. It is not necessary for us to intend to convey something for it to be ...

Want fast, cheap, flexible results? Consider using an omnibus

I am going to be broadcasting a webinar on 25 January, 3pm GMT (10am EST) looking at why and how to use an omnibus – to register click HERE. Most people know about full-scale market research, a process which can be very useful but which usually takes quite a lot of planning, skill and money. There is an alternative way to find out what the citizens and customers think. This alternative can take as little as two days and cost very little. ...

What will research communities be like in 2017?

Katie Kaylor of Phones4U and I will be presenting our research into the future of online research communities at the MRS Annual Conference in London. We have chosen 2017 as the focal point for our consideration as it is far enough away to be sure there will be changes and close enough to make planning for it today worthwhile. The research will involve a broad overview of current trends and likely innovations along with a specific discussion of how this will ...

No Surveys in 18 years!

A couple of years ago I earned 15 minutes of fame by suggesting, at the MRS Annual Conference, that surveys would be dead in 20 years. Two years on I thought I ought to look at the issue again and see whether I now thought surveys had just 18 years to go. The answer is yes and the reasons are pretty much the same as they were two years ago. Many research users are not showing any signs of improving their core ...
