Vision Critical Vice President Named One of Canada’s Most Influential Hispanics
Toronto, Canada – November, 23, 2012 – Mario Canseco, Vice President at Angus Reid Public Opinion—the public affairs practice of Vision Critical—has been named one of Canada’s 10 Most Influential Hispanic Canadians. His Excellency Guillermo Rishchynski, Canada’s Ambassador to the United Nations, presented the awards in Toronto on Nov. 21.
Three hundred executives, media, diplomats from most Spanish-speaking countries and community members attended this national program organized by HispanicBusiness.ca. The nominations were declared opened by Vancouver Mayor Gregor Robertson in June. In 2010, Prime Minister Stephen Harper met with past awardees; a similar meeting is in the works.
Canseco, who emigrated from Mexico to Canada in 2000 to pursue a Master's Degree in Journalism at the University of British Columbia, has worked with Angus Reid since March 2003, and currently leads the firm's public polling and electoral forecasting program, which recently issued the most accurate prediction of the 2012 United States presidential race relying solely on online methodologies.
"It is an honour to be recognized among the many Hispanic Canadians who have chosen Canada as a new home," said Canseco. "I cannot think of another place that would have afforded me the opportunity to settle, start a family, and fulfill my professional dreams, while seeing my cultural heritage acknowledged as an asset, and not a detriment."
Since 2007, sixty Hispanic Canadians from seven provinces and 13 countries of origin have been selected by past winners and executives from the CBC, Globe and Mail, National Post, Toronto Star, Canadian Aboriginal & Minority Supplier Council, Canadian Council for the Americas, Greater Toronto Marketing Alliance and the University of Ottawa.
