Mathew George

Mr. Mathew George is responsible for managing TELUS Ventures’ US$100 million venture fund and managing all venture investments made on behalf of TELUS. TELUS Ventures is the strategic venture capital arm of TELUS Corporation and invests in emerging U.S. and Canadian based businesses and technologies with a view to accelerate TELUS’ strategy of leveraging the convergence of voice, data, IP, and wireless. To-date TELUS Ventures has made 19 venture investments, 10 of which are in Canadian companies and 9 in U.S. companies. His team identifies investment opportunities, structures the venture and private equity investments, actively monitors the portfolio companies and facilitates portfolio liquidity events.

Mathew joined TELUS Ventures in June 2001 from the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority where he was responsible for the global co-investment and direct private equity investment activities of ADIA’s US$4 billion Private Equity fund. Mathew has also worked in the Mergers & Acquisitions Group at Warburg Dillon Read and Barclays de Zoete Wedd both in London and New York. Mathew holds a Masters of Business Management from the Ecole des Hautes Etudes Commericiales in Paris, with specialization in Analytical Finance from the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business. His Bachelor of Technology (Honours) degree in Electrical & Electronics Engineering is from the Regional Engineering College in Calicut, India.

Mathew serves as a member of the Board of Directors for Apparent Networks (Vancouver, BC), Hostopia (Toronto, ON) and the Arts Club Theatre Company (Vancouver, BC). Mr. George is also a member of the Chartered Financial Analysts (CFA) Institute and the Vancouver Society of Financial Analysts and is also a CFA charter holder.
