5 résumé and cover letter tips for Vision Critical applicants

Trying to get an interview at Vision Critical? We are constantly looking for top notch talent to fill our many opportunities, but we also get tons of applications for each open role.

To increase your chances of getting noticed—and possibly landing that interview—keep these tips in mind when submitting résumés and cover letters:

  1. Do your research.

Before writing your résumé and cover letter, learn about us as much as possible. In addition to our website, these are some useful resources to become familiarized with our company and products:

    • Our LinkedIn page for industry-related news and job opportunities. You can also check out our YouTube videos to learn about our technology and expertise.
    • The VC Blog, where we regularly write about topics that impact our industry.
    • Vision Critical University, a place where potential and current clients and employees can learn about insight communities and best practices.

  2. Be original.

Don’t be afraid to stand out. Adding a little flair to your application gets our attention and increases your chances of getting to the next step.

As a tech company, we always appreciate creative applications. We’ve seen résumés resembling comic books, websites, social media platforms, billboards, million dollar bills… Unique and interactive résumés are always fun to read and will make a lasting impression.

  3. Don’t forget about the basics.

Nothing beats a well-formatted résumé and cover letter. Is your application easy to read and straight to the point? Make it obvious that you have the skills and experience we’re looking for. And don’t forget to proofread to catch typos.

A good idea is to have someone look at your résumé for 15 seconds and tell you what key skills and experiences stand out for them—these should match the skills being asked for in the job description.

  4. Get a friend to refer you.

If you know people who already work at Vision Critical, get them to refer you. We always welcome and pay special attention to our employee referrals, as they understand what it takes to succeed in our environment.

  5. Talk to us in person.

Keep an eye out for events Vision Critical is involved in and come shake a few hands in person. We constantly attend conferences, career fairs, university events, and even host our own events once in a while. Follow us on Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn to find out what we’re up to.
