You just got an interview with Vision Critical – congrats! That probably means your rÌ©sumÌ© and cover letter stood out and we think you might be a good fit with us.
If you want to close the deal, here are things to keep in mind:
- Learn about Vision Critical and the role you’re applying for.
Peruse our website, Vision Critical University, and our blog. Check out recent news about us to see what we’re up to. Review the job description and make sure you get what we’re looking for. And make sure you show that you did your research at the interview by sharing what you learned.
- Research the people interviewing you.
Our employees are tech-savvy, so it’s likely the people interviewing you are on LinkedIn. Researching them might help you find connections in common, understand their areas of expertise and better bond with them during the interview. It’s not creepy – we research our candidates, so it’s only natural that you research us as well. Plus, it might impress your interviewers to see how resourceful you are!
- Arrive on time.
Punctuality definitely counts. Create a great first impression by arriving on time. Avoid being too early – 10 to 15 minutes in advance is perfect. If you get here earlier, hang out in the building lobby before coming up to our floor.
- Avoid rambling.
It’s ok to take a few seconds to think of your answers before replying. That will help you put your thoughts together, find the end goal you’re trying to reach and avoid rambling while getting there. Providing a clear and concise answer shows confidence and reassures your interviewers that you know what you’re talking about.
- Come prepared.
Bring copies of your portfolio, rÌ©sumÌ©, cover letter and any other documents you might want to share. Organization is key in any role and will help you make a great impression. Sharing writing samples or other creative things you’ve done will make you stand out.
- Know the skills you want to highlight.
Which skills and experiences you want to showcase during the interview? Make sure you know them and talk about each of them throughout the conversation. There’s no harm in bringing notes with you so write them down if you need to.
- Be prepared to show your expertise.
Depending on the role, we might ask applicants to take assessments. More technical positions, for example, usually include a technical exercise as part of the process; some research and sales roles will include a writing assessment. These assessments are often taken from home or at scheduled times in one of our offices. But don’t worry – we’ll let you know in advance if the position requires an assessment.
- Ask thoughtful questions.
The interview is a two-way process – you should be evaluating if this is the right fit for you by getting as much information as you can about the role, team and company. Write down your questions (if you need to) and feel free to write the answers you receive down as well as sometimes it’s hard to remember every little detail later. Asking relevant questions reinforces your interest in the position and in Vision Critical.
- Relax – and let your personality shine.
Treat the interview as a conversation, not an interrogation. Remember that we’re looking for skills and experience, but one of our top priorities is also assessing cultural fit. Don’t be afraid to show us your personality, whether that’s in your application or during the interview. We want to get to know you and what makes you tick.
